Everyone Wants More

Why do we constantly search for more? Will we ever be content? Solomon (that crazy man who wrote Song of Songs about his wife who was unattractive, but super attractive to him), also wrote in Ecclesiastes.

As I was reading Solomon's perspective in life, I realized that he was "THE MAN" in Jerusalem. Equivalent to, perhaps,Donald Trump in power and wisdom today.
Why is this important? Because, everyone I know is less than Donald Trump, and Solomon in his day. Yet, Solomon decided to warn us that ALL of his successes were for NOTHING! Like "a chasing in the wind". (So what are we chasing, a tornado? We can't measure up to either of them!) Whew- feel that breeze? That is the breeze of conviction, friend. I chase "tornadoes" all the time! Which job will I be teaching at next year? Will Garrett's income increase this month? Lord, can you bring him more clients? But, just the right ones. And more than one. While you are doing this, God, can you also let me know if I should get my masters this year? Will I pass the 5 tests I need to? Should we join the church? Omgosh, can we even tithe? Blah Blah Blah.

Sound familiar?
STOP! Friends, do you SEE THAT NO ONE IS GETTING ANYWHERE? Solomon tells us That "The eye never has enough seeing.." (Ecc. 1:8). He goes on to explain that "Donald Trump" (ha, okay, you know what I mean) "The wise man has eyes in his head, while the fool walks in darkness" (we are the fools, lets face it- since we are not the wisest men of our day) "but I came to realize that the same fate overtakes them both". (vs. 14)
What???? Ha, don't put ME in the same category as Trump man and Solomon. He is saying that we are all held accountable spiritually, because both are destined to be judged before the SAME GOD for what was done on earth. Here is the thing, as you continue reading Ecclesiastes, you will quickly realize that Solomon (Trump) is super wise and worked his butt off for the praises of his people and to show off his wisdom. Yet, he consistantly talks about how at the end of his life, the most that will happen is his HARD work and labor will be passed on to someone who did not work for it. (see vs 19).
Feel the breeze again? Man...why don't we consider that every decision we worry over and pray over is already determined ahead of time by God. He already knows. I don't want my work to be for nothing!

Let's start looking toward the works that will make God proud. Who cares about the clients, the work, the marriage, the kids, the stress of life... (you know what i mean). Be content. Be thankful. Ask "God, what can I do to make a difference in other's lives, so that my work is meaningful?".

Friends, Solomon was wise. Listen to him. He wants to warn us that he did it wrong. He realized it too late in life. Stop chasing after tornadoes, because it will always blow out of our control, and we will never catch it!!! It will spin us out of control, and land us in a huge pile of crap. Divorced, jobless, messed up families, poor, etc. Praise him for your circumstance and LET GO of chasing your dream job and family. We have enough. God is enough.

That's it. Thought i'd go strong on my first blog :) Be encouraged, not discouraged. Chase God, who doesn't blow away from you. He runs to you!
